Valvetronic Designs' BMW X3M/X4M Development

The BMW X3M debuted the first iteration of the S58 Twin Turbocharged straight six engine for BMW. This engine was praised heavily, having the strong backbone of the B58 and offering a more enjoyable sound characteristic than the previous S55 engine. Although the sound was slightly improved, At Valvetronic Designs we believe in creating a perfect experience, rather than one comparable to the competition. Initially our research and development led us to run a dual resonated cat back system that measured 2.75 in diameter. After having great success we continued our development further to deliver even better sound dynamics. Our learning from the G8x platform led us to develop a single mid pipe configuration. This revision of the exhaust system offered improved sound characteristics and provided a more enjoyable sound from the S58 engine. The single 3 ½ inch mid pipe design deepens the sound and smoothes exhaust pulses for that more pleasant sound. These updates allowed us to remove the resonators and lighten the system even further. Vehicles with this exhaust system experience a naturally aspirated type sound experience and one that proves extremely enjoyable throughout the entire rev range. The rear section of the exhaust has also been improved. As the exhaust travels out of the single mid pipe it is diverted one of two ways. With the valves closed the sound is incredibly docile, even when combined with free flow front pipes. There is no drone in the cabin and the sound level is muted so that no one will know the car has an aftermarket exhaust system. When the valves are opened be ready for a seriously aggressive sound profile. With the valves open the exhaust travels unrestricted out of the exhaust tips. This roar is unmistakable, but the experience remains drone free. This exhaust system is for the X3M or X4M owner that wants to have that idealized experience. There is truly no other system like it out on the market and we are proud to offer an experience unlike our competition.
