The Nissan 400Z brings back the spirit of the Z car with its new twin turbocharged V6,. While the platform delivers strong performance, the factory exhaust system is heavily restricted with small piping that mutes much of the car’s potential sound. At Valvetronic Designs we knew exactly how to approach this car, using our engineering experience to create an exhaust configuration that delivers the raw, motorsport inspired sound this car deserves.

Purpose-Driven Engineering

The system is constructed from premium T304 stainless steel and designed around a center merge crossover mid pipe that optimizes flow and harmonics before feeding into the valved rear section. With the valves closed the Z remains quiet and composed, perfect for cruising or late night drives. With the valves open the car transforms completely, delivering an unfiltered and aggressive tone that matches the performance heritage of the Z badge. Larger piping size increases efficiency, reduces back pressure, and sharpens response, while a set of 5 inch double wall tips give the rear end a striking finish.

The Result

With this system installed the 400Z gains the sound and character it always should have had from factory. Combined with free flow components and software tuning (sourced from other companies), the performance and driving experience take another leap forward. For enthusiasts who demand the ultimate balance of sound, flexibility, and quality, this is the exhaust that transforms the 400Z into a true modern Z car.

Fantastic!

"My Nissan Z sounded way too quiet stock. This Valvetronic exhaust sounds better than any turbo that I’ve heard. Even the closed/quiet mode just sounds fantastic. The open valve is glorious. Now I’m just looking for tunnels, so I roll down windows and enjoy. Cannot overstate how this excellent exhaust has enlivened the whole driving experience!"

Worth the cost - with a tiny, tiny complaint

"This is my first Valvetronic product, to start. It was installed on a Manual 2024 Nissan Z with 14K miles. The first impression of the system was the absolute unit of the parcel was and care that comes with the packaging of the exhaust. The expense is spared in making sure each part is packaged properly and safely - seriously. As a former welding instructor, my first order of business was to inspect all of the welds across the joints, and I’m very impressed with the workmanship. They have some talented fabricators and welders in their shop. As for the installation, the hardest parts of anything, (in terms of the ‘24 Z) is navigating around the cross brace that is directly bolted onto the subframe. If you do not have a lift, like I do, you will be fighting around the brace during most of the install. Getting the Valvetronic unit on, despite that, is a breeze. The only points of contention is that the exhaust sits higher than the rear bumper when fully bolted, so you will need to bend your hangers down to help clear the exhaust tips. It took around 500lbs of pressure to get everything seated properly. Once that is done, you can hook up the PLU by routing the wire right through the rubber gasket in the trunk. The unit sits nicely behind the drivers seat and plugs in discreetly to the cigarette lighter. My one and only issue with this system is that there is no indicator on the control unit to let you know if you are on “Open” or “Closed” mode. Obviously you can hear the difference, but it would be nice to have an indication light. Overall, I absolutely love the system - it is a massive upgrade to the pathetic stock muffler that plagues the manual model. After putting this on, I took a 2 hour ride just to take in the absolute incredible sound the car is producing now. In fact, I drove the car with music off because of how much I love the system. I look forward to purchasing more Valvetronic prints for my other vehicles soon!"

Q&A

Is this system only controlled by the remote, or in the wiring is there a way to be able to wire to a button in the car. Something like the sport button?
it is controlled by the remote, but you can pair the remote to the buttons on your rear view mirror as well to control it from there
Will I need to run vacuum lines for the valves or is it controlled electronically
You will need to run vacuum lines. Everything is included in the kit
I understand that the system doesn't come with downpipes. Does the Z in your video above have aftermarket downpipes or are they stock. I just need to know if I need aftermarket DP's to make mine sound like that.
Hey Steve! Great question! Since we have several videos with different setups, it’s best to confirm which one you’re watching. Generally, you do not need aftermarket downpipes to get our signature exotic tone, but adding them will significantly increase volume and rasp. Give us a call - we’d love to walk you through the exact configuration needed to get your Z sounding exactly like the clip you saw!
Does it come with a remote to open and close the valves, or does it do it automatically. Also how long will you be producing these because it may be a long while until i can afford one.
Yes, this system includes a remote so you can open and close the valves at will. Loud when you want, quiet when you need!
Could one buy this system without the valves and the valve controller kit?
Unfortunately, this system is not offered in that configuration.
