troubleshoot guide for valve issues

ELECTRONIC EXHAUST VALVES REUSING OEM MOTORS:

  1. Valves rattling
    1. If exhaust valves are rattling when closed there is not enough tension between the valve spring and the valve body
      1. Solution: Remove exhaust valves
      2. Cycle them to fully closed
      3. Reinstall valves
      4. Ensure significant tension when closed
    2. If this does not solve the issue
      1. Replace the springs on the exhaust system
    3. Most exhaust system utilize the flat exhaust springs
    4. Inspect product pictures to ensure proper valve spring is sent out
    5. If valves begin to rattle it is an issue of tension within the system
      1. to fix, remove the valve motor and cycle it to fully closed. Then reinstall onto the exhaust system. There should be a lot of tension pinning the valve closed
  2. Valves not operating
    1. Ensure all connections are connected properly
      1. Occasionally vehicles will have dead valve motors
    2. Remove valve motors from vehicle and plug into the harness
    3. Actuate the valves and test if movement is occurring or valve is making sound
    4. If no movement, using bimmerlink or a scanner, check to see if the valves are properly able to be operated in the programming
      1. If not the dealer will need to reset software
    5. If all else fails replace the valve motor
  3. Valves not operating fully
    1. Partial valve operation could be a result of improper spring fitting
    2. Inspect springs to ensure proper springs were utilized
    3. Remove valve motors and plug into factory harness off of the car to test full operation amount
      1. Valve motors should rotate a minimum of 180 degrees lock to lock
      2. If not there is an internal failure with the valve motor
        1. Replace valve motors
    4. Resetting valve motor position and orienting them to closed upon install is the proper way to install components

ELECTRONIC EXHAUST VALVES USING ELECTRONIC VALVETRONIC MOTORS:

  1. Valve failure to operate
    1. Ensure all connections are tight
    2. Ensure the controller box is properly connected to power and the power adapter is lit up.
    3. Inspect valves to ensure no water has gotten into the unit or damaged inflicted on the unit
  2. Only 1 valve operates:
    1. Swap the valve motors from one side to another to test functionality
    2. Swap lines from control box
      1. Goal of isolating the issue to the exact component that is the issue

VEHICLES USING Valvetronic Designs STANDALONE VACUUM CONTROL UNIT

  1. COMMON ISSUES
    1. If your exhaust valves are not working check these things:
      1. Cigarette lighter fully plugged in and lit up
      2. Your pressing BOTH buttons on the remote, top and bottom
      3. All lines are plugged in and NOT crimped
      4. Valves have been cycled by hand and are operating freely
      5. Antenna is plugged in
  2. Valves failure to open
    1. Check to see if the vacuum is not leaking and there is a tight seal
    2. Operate the valves by hand and ensure they are moving freely
    3. Ensure power to the unit
  3. Valves failure to close
    1. Ensure lines are not crimped
  4. Stuck halfway
    1. Search for leaks in the system
    2. If the pump stops operating the pump has hit its threshold and thinks the valves are fully open
      1. Actuate the valves by hand
  5. One opens other doesn’t
    1. There Is a leak in the crossover section of the vacuum tubing,
    2. Check for leaks and actuate the valve by hand to ensure no bind
  6. Box operating but wont switch modes
    1. Ensure pushing both top and bottom buttons on the remote
  7. Box not lighting up or no sound
    1. Box may be dead
      1. May require replacement
    2. Ensure proper power connection is made
  8. Box constantly making noise
    1. There is a leak or puncture in the vacuum lines not allowing the flow of air to fully open the valve itself.
    2. if the box is properly plugged in and appears to have a software issue, it will most likely require a reset or a replacement
    3. reset button is located on the side of the box, can be pushed to repair remotes or reset the control box

VEHICLES USING FACTORY VALVE/FLAP CONTROLLER:

  1. Key fob not actuating OEM vehicle valves
    1. Ensure plugged in fully
    2. Ensure proper ground location is used for the controller
    3. Listen for a solenoid “click” when pressing the remote
  2. If installing on a Porsche the pins may need to be switched due to the change in polarity
    1. Direct power wire needed to operate valves to a power source in the engine bay

VALVE REMOTE REPAIRING (Vacuum control box)

  1. Press the reset button and hold until the light appears on the box
  2. once light is on, simultaneously press the new remote button to pair to the box
  3. do the same to the other button on the remote to toggle open and closed
